Be of Service

If you’re a member of AA in New Hampshire and would like to be of service and give your time to serve other alcoholics in the state, there are several ways to get involved.

Service Opportunities

Helpline

The NHAA Helpline offers 24-hour phone support for people looking for help with a drinking problem. Area 43 has an answering service that routes calls to sober AA members on the Helpline contact list. Volunteers sign up for specific days and times to receive calls. When someone looking for help reaches out, the answering service provides the volunteer with the contact information to get in touch. These contacts provide a vital service, as “…recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope.”

Bridging The Gap

Bridging The Gap is a program that provides temporary contacts for people leaving treatment facilities. Volunteers agree to contact the person, take them to meetings, introduce them to other AA’s, direct them to meeting lists, and in general, help get them started on their recovery journey. Note: You are not expected to be a permanent or temporary sponsor.

Prison Pre-Release

The Prison Pre-Release program is similar to Bridging the Gap, but for people who are being released from incarceration. Serving time in the jail and prison system is not required to volunteer, but many times members who have this experience favor giving back.

Service Office

The NHAA Service Office is often looking for volunteers to support office activities, such as answering phones and helping with other administrative functions at the office. Volunteers must have availability during regular store hours.

Other Service Committees

If you would like to explore other ways to get involved or use your unique talents in service at the Area level, please review our service committees and contact the chair directly for more information.
