About AA in New Hampshire

Alcoholics Anonymous in New Hampshire includes members and groups across the state, from the North Country to the Massachusetts border, from the Monadnock to the Seacoast regions. Like our small state, AA in New Hampshire is a close-knit community. With our differences and similarities as people, our mutual desire to stay sober and help the next alcoholic achieve sobriety is what brings us together. We hope you’ll discover the fellowship you crave in NH.

NHAA in the Bigger Picture of AA

Alcoholics Anonymous in the United States and Canada is composed of 93 “Areas” across North America. Elected representatives from AA groups in New Hampshire and parts of southern Maine make up Area 43, also known as the New Hampshire Area Assembly (NHAA), and support members and groups in the state. We also elect a Delegate to serve as part of AA’s annual General Service Conference.

More About NHAA

NHAA serves Alcoholics Anonymous in New Hampshire and parts of southern Maine with 15 districts (generally collections of groups located near one another), 600 registered AA groups with over 800 meetings, and an estimated 9,000 members. We provide vital services, including making AA literature available locally at our Service Office, maintaining an online store and website, managing information for AA meetings and local AA events, and coordinating the 24-hour NHAA Helpline.

Area Assembly Meetings

Area 43 hosts four Assemblies each year where representatives of the AA Groups gather to discuss and reach decisions on matters of interest to all NHAA members. These meetings are held using a hybrid in-person/online format, and the physical locations for in-person attendance rotate all around the state.

In the months when an assembly is not scheduled, the Area Committee meets virtually to conduct the routine business of the area.

NHAA Service Committees

Members’ efforts to ‘carry the message’ to other alcoholics is strongly supported by our Area service structure. Coordinating activities between AA groups, acting as communication channels, pooling resources and disseminating shared experience – these are a few ways committees serve our fellowship.
